Dalian’s Tianjin Street boasts a long history, established in 1909 as the birthplace of Dalian’s commerce. It has a history of over a hundred years. Before renovation, it stretched 1,720 meters in length. After comprehensive redevelopment in 2003, the street was shortened to 1,054 meters.

Tianjin Street Commercial Pedestrian Street holds a prime location, positioned at the heart of “six centers”: the financial center, commercial center, cultural center, information center, international shipping center, and Dalian’s only central business district. It is just 200 meters from Dalian Railway Station and 300 meters from Dalian Port. The area is surrounded by star-rated hotels, including the five-star Nikko Hotel, which faces Tianjin Street across the road. Just 200 meters to the west stand two other five-star hotels: Shangri-La and Furama. To the south, Tianjin Street neighbors the renowned Zhongshan Square, whose surrounding architectural complex embodies the essence of world architecture. On January 18, 2004, Tianjin Street Commercial Pedestrian Street reopened after renovation. The entire street is equipped with 100 eco-friendly wooden benches imported from the United States, offering comfort and relaxation for shoppers taking a break. When night falls, 370 colorful ground lights embedded in the pedestrian street change hues continuously, creating a dazzling display that interacts with powerful laser beams, crafting a dreamlike nightlife scene. Inside the underground plaza that runs through Tianjin Street, visitors are amazed by the uniquely designed, vibrant water curtain fountain. The four flower-adorned street clocks on Tianjin Street carry deep meaning—they not only document the street’s past and present evolution but also remind people to cherish time, keep pace with the times, and create a better future. Strolling along the spacious pedestrian boulevard of New World Department Store, the first sight is the “Golden Years” landscape. Standing before “Golden Years,” visitors are naturally reminded of the dramatic changes and development of Tianjin Street over the past century, evoking fond memories of the old street and highlighting how today’s transformation is a continuation, evolution, and innovation of its past. The surroundings of the “Golden Years” landscape reflect the glorious historical legacy of Tianjin Street. To the north stands Dalian Xinhua Bookstore, inscribed with calligraphy by Chairman Mao Zedong; to the south is Dalian Cultural Relics Store, with an inscription by Chinese literary master Guo Moruo. To the west is the newly opened Northeastern China’s third-largest bookstore—Xinhua Bookstore Northern Book City—and the largest antique market in the region, Dalian Shuolin Antique Culture & Art Plaza. To showcase Tianjin Street’s century-long transformation and evoke nostalgia and dreams, the pedestrian street also features small nostalgic displays such as horse-drawn carriages, roasted sweet potatoes, street performers, and traditional barbershops—offering a glimpse into the area’s evolutionary journey. “Food is the paramount necessity of the people.” The bustling Tianjin Street “Night Market,” which started last year and continues this year, gathers famous snacks from across the country, attracting visitors from near and far. Here, people enjoy tasting, shopping, and relaxing, savoring the pleasures of a beautiful life. It can be said that Tianjin Street’s “Night Market” has become a vibrant and attractive food and shopping destination. Particularly noteworthy is the high-tech, multifunctional intelligent information platform (also known as the Central Control Room), built with an investment of nearly 30 million yuan, which is playing an increasingly significant role. It is understood that among nearly 5,000 commercial streets nationwide, Tianjin Street is the only one with a Central Control Room.
