Zhongshan is a bustling hub in Taipei City. The district is home not only to the iconic Grand Hotel, a national landmark, but also to Xingtian Temple, rich in faith and culture. For an art-filled experience, you can visit the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, which showcases contemporary Taiwanese artworks, and there are also numerous Japanese-style izakayas lining the streets. Originally known as the Yamashita Villa, the Taipei Story House is a Western-style building that blends Tudor-style timber framing with neoclassical architecture. Located near the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, its pointed tower and brick facade are painted in bright colors, creating a fairy-tale-like adorable house, often referred to by many as the “fairy-tale cream house.”

The Taipei Brewery was formerly the Takasago Beer Company during the Japanese colonial period and was Taiwan’s only beer production facility at the time. After the war, it became the Second Brewery of the Taiwan Provincial Monopoly Bureau. Today, the original brick walls from the Japanese era are preserved, and the site of the old warehouse has been transformed into the 1919 Art Center.

Half a century ago, Chifeng Street in Taipei was once an ironworking street, lined with blacksmith shops, auto parts stores, and hardware businesses, exuding a strong industrial atmosphere. It has now transformed into a cultural hub for modern creatives, with small and large arts and cultural shops taking over the area. Among them, “Floating Light Bookstore” is considered by many visitors as the most beautiful independent bookstore.

Eslite Life Nanxi Store, reflecting its cross-cultural “life theater” concept, features 19 wooden window designs on its white exterior walls. During the day, they provide bright, airy illumination, while at night, the soft glow of the windows adds layers of reading ambiance. The second-floor wooden terrace space functions like a performance venue, becoming a lively community hub in the bustling Nanxi District.
