Former Site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Hospital

The former site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Hospital is a cultural heritage protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The former site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Hospital is located at No. 6 Jiefang Street, Zhongshan District. On June 28, 2013, it was included in the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Dalian.

The affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University is located at No. 6 Jiefang Street, Zhongshan District. It was first built in 1909 and completed in 1926. The building has a total floor space of 32,685 square meters. It was designed by Germans and constructed under the supervision of the South Manchuria Railway Company. The structure consists of five floors above ground and one basement level, featuring a modern frame structure. The interior layout is rational and functional zones are clearly defined. The exterior is simple and solemn, using vertical lines and brown face bricks — understated yet elegant — blending well with the surrounding area and terrain.

Architectural style defines the character of a city. No matter how modern and vibrant Dalian becomes, it retains an unmistakable sense of history due to its many weighty old buildings that cast long shadows. Locals are very familiar with this architectural complex — it’s no longer purely classical in style, but radiates a vivid, modern European flair. The site sits on slightly higher ground and, although set some distance from the Zhongshan Square building cluster, belongs to the same planned area. During the Japanese occupation, the building served as the Manchuria Railway Dalian Hospital. In August 1945, it came under joint Sino-Soviet management and was renamed the China Changchun Railway Dalian Central Hospital. In 1952, it was handed over to China and became known as the Shenyang Railway Bureau Dalian Hospital. Today, it houses the affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University (formerly the Dalian Railway Hospital).

Protected Area: The protected area includes a 10-meter radius around the main building of the surgical ward and a 10-meter radius around the main building of the medical ward of the affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University.

Construction Control Zone: The zone extends to Anyang Street to the east, Liulin Street to the south, Jiefang Street to the west, and Xinglin Street to the north, designated as a Class V construction control zone.
