Former Site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Library

The former site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Library is a cultural heritage protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The former site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Library is located at No. 20, Lu Xun Road, Zhongshan District. On June 28, 2013, it was included in the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Dalian.

The former site of the Manchuria Railway Dalian Library is located on Lu Xun Road near Zhongshan Square, with the former site of the Manchuria Railway Company situated directly across the street. The old library building is now a branch of the Dalian Library and is a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit in Liaoning.

The Dalian Library was established in 1907 during the Japanese occupation of Dalian, originally known as the Reference Room of the South Manchuria Railway Company. In 1922, it was renamed the Dalian Library of the South Manchuria Railway Company. After the liberation of Dalian in 1945, it was taken over by the Soviet Army. In 1950, the local Dalian government took over the library and renamed it the Lüda City Library. In 1981, it was renamed again as the Dalian Library. In 1990, a new library building covering over 30,000 square meters was completed and opened to the public at the southern foot of Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area. In 1999, the new building was expanded, and a branch was established at the original site on Lu Xun Road in Dalian, bringing the total area of the Dalian Library to 40,000 square meters. Today, the Dalian Library has become a large, comprehensive, modern public library that integrates document collection, information consulting, social education, and academic research. It has been awarded the title of "National First-Class Library" three times in the Ministry of Culture’s public library evaluations.

Protected Area: A 2-meter zone extending outward from the outer base of the main walls of the original building is designated as the protected area.

Construction Control Zone: A 30-meter area surrounding the protected zone is designated as a Class V construction control zone.
