The former site of China’s Customs House in Dalian is a cultural heritage protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The former site of China’s Customs House in Dalian is located at No. 86 Renmin Road, Zhongshan District. On June 28, 2013, it was included in the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Dalian.

The former site of China’s Customs House in Dalian is the only remaining Gothic-style building in the city, characterized by two fortress-like towers. After its completion, the building served as the customs office established by the Qing government and later the Republic of China government within Japan’s leased territory of Dalian. The Dalian Customs was established on May 30, 1907, following an agreement between the Qing government and Japan on “Establishing Dalian Customs and Inland Steamship Navigation.” It officially began operations on July 1, 1907. On June 25, 1932, after the establishment of the puppet state of Manchukuo, Japan placed this customs under the authority of Manchukuo. In August 1945, after the Soviet Red Army defeated Japanese forces and took control of Dalian, the sovereignty of the port customs was returned to China. After 1949, the building served as the office of the Lüda Shipping Company. Today, the former site of China’s Customs House in Dalian is the office building of Liaoning Foreign Trade Light Industry Corporation.

Protected area: The eastern, southern, and western sides extend 5 meters beyond the outer wall base of the main structure of the heritage site, while the northern side is defined by the outer wall base of the main structure.
