Dalian Christian Anglican Church

The Dalian Christian Anglican Church is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The Dalian Anglican Church was originally located at lots 20, 24, and 28 in Dango-machi (present-day No. 2 Yuguang Street, Zhongshan District, behind the former British Consulate). In 1921, it was planned and constructed by the British Consulate (see: Dalian Old Photos 184 – The British Consulate in Dalian), with fundraising led by a British man named Francis, design by German engineer Williams, supervision by Francis L. Norris, Bishop of the Beijing Anglican Church, and construction by Araki Construction. Official construction began on April 11, 1928, with the foundation stone laid on May 6 and completion on October 15. The building covers an area of 420 square meters and is designed in a “Romanesque style with Gothic decorative features.” After completion, the church was jointly managed by the Anglican Churches of Britain and Japan. As part of the Protestant denomination, it came under the jurisdiction of the North China Diocese of the Church of England in China and was known as the “Dalian Anglican Church.” In 1943, Japan expelled the British church personnel, and the site became an exclusive church for the Japanese Anglican Church, referred to as the “Dalian Anglican Church Chapel.”
