The Diamond Mine Sightseeing Area is located in Paotai Town, southern Wafangdian City, 3 kilometers from the Zhuan Shantou exit of the Shenyang-Dalian Expressway.
The diamond reserves in Wafangdian City account for 54% of the nation's total proven reserves, mostly in the form of octahedrons and dodecahedrons, with exceptionally high grades—world-renowned for their purity, reportedly even whiter than those produced in South Africa. The gemstones, diamonds, and crystal products produced here are popular travel goods and souvenirs among both domestic and international tourists. The "Diamond Journey" tour route launched in 1999 is a popular travel hotspot that combines sightseeing and shopping, hot spring bathing, and vacation leisure.
