Dalian Liaonan No. 1 Karst Cave

Located 15 kilometers from Wafangdian City and 80 kilometers from downtown Dalian, Liaonan is the largest natural cave discovered so far in the Liaonan region. This karst cave system is distributed within the gray medium-thick limestone of the Cambrian Zhangxia Formation and was formed under tectonic fracture control, with an estimated formation period of about 0.7 to 1.3 hundred million years.

The cave extends 2 kilometers from north to south and 0.4 kilometers from east to west, covering a total area of 0.8 square kilometers. With good air circulation and crystal-clear, unpolluted water flow inside, the cave features clusters of erosional landforms such as stalagmites and stalactites, maintaining a constant year-round temperature of 12°C. Subsequent preliminary surveys by the Liaoning Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources identified five main caves and ten branch caves, with a combined length of over 600 meters. The interior of the cave forms a complex maze-like network of passages.
