Xu Tun Zhang Family Chastity Archway

The Xu Tun Zhang Family Chastity Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The Zhang Family Chastity Archway in Laoyemiao Village, Xu Tun Town, was built in the 21st year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty and is the only chastity archway in the Dalian area. The entire archway stands 5 meters tall and 4.8 meters wide, featuring a double-eave, four-pillar, three-bay structure, with all components made of granite. The horizontal inscribed board on the front and the four pillars are all engraved with inscriptions, including couplets written by local gentry and notable figures of the time. The back side is inscribed with 120 characters praising the deeds of Madam Zhang, who remained widowed in her youth, cared for her in-laws, raised her children to success, endured many hardships, as well as the process of petitioning the emperor to construct the archway. The entire structure is tightly built, beautifully shaped, exquisitely crafted, and is a rare stone archway. In 1985, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.
