Baiyun Temple in Wafangdian

Baiyun Temple is situated on Baiyun Mountain in Yuantai Town, Wafangdian City. Also known as Laobai Mountain, the mountain is steep and imposing, often shrouded in clouds and mist, which is how it got its name. It is composed of nine peaks, with the main peak reaching 422 meters above sea level. Nestled among the surrounding peaks and cliffs, the area is adorned with tall pines, rugged rocks, ancient temples, and drifting clouds—a truly breathtaking sight and a popular tourist destination.

Built amidst the mountains, Baiyun Temple, also called Baiyun Mountain Temple, was first constructed in the late Qing Dynasty. On the nine cliff-like peaks resembling dragon heads, there are over ten ancient, elegant, majestic, and spiritually vibrant structures including the Three Pure Ones Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, Guanyin Hall, Nine Saints Temple, and the Temple of Lord Hu San Taiye. The temple complex primarily follows Taoism but also integrates elements of Buddhism and Confucianism. The mountain also features other attractions such as the Ancient Great Wall, watchtowers, general’s platforms, the Sea-Calming Tower, Immortal Bridge, Gaoming Temple, and the Three Officials Temple. Visitors come all year round.
