The Gaolifang Schisandra Berry Picking Garden is located at Matuozizi, three kilometers east of Gaolifang Town, Tai’an County. Established in 2006, the garden covers an area of over 400 acres. The main produce available for picking includes schisandra berries, honeysuckle, wild grapes, tomatoes, corn, kidney beans, gourds, and pumpkins.

The most distinctive produce of the garden is the schisandra berry. The berries are bright red, juicy, and have a sour yet slightly astringent taste with hints of Chinese prickly ash. When dried, they turn a dark purplish-red with wrinkles and are a traditional Chinese medicinal herb.

Nutritional value of schisandra berries: They contain protein, fat, organic acids, pectin, vitamin C, carotene, glycerol, and all seven essential amino acids required by the human body.

Edible value of schisandra berries: With a sour taste and warm nature, they nourish the kidneys, replenish the lungs, and promote saliva production to relieve thirst. They are especially effective for treating neurasthenia, insomnia, forgetfulness, and delaying aging.

Gaolifang Town: Located at the junction of Tai’an, Haicheng, and Panshan counties, it borders Wensxiang Town and Gaotuozi Town of Haicheng City across the Hun River. To the west, it faces Shaling Town of Panshan County across the Outer Liao River. It connects to Jiucuitai Town to the south and neighbors Huangshatuo Town to the north. The town is 53 km from Anshan, 45 km from Panjin, and 32 km from Tai’an.
