Zhulong Mountain

To the northwest of the ancient city of Fozhou lies a mountain called Zhulong Mountain. This mountain has two peaks: the main peak leans slightly northwest, while the secondary peak leans southeast, directly facing the north gate of Fozhou City. At some point, people noticed that the smaller, secondary peak seemed to "push forward" a little bit every year, and it was soon approaching within less than a mile of the north gate. Everyone grew very afraid and could not think of any way to stop it.

One year, a southerner—referred to as a "southern barbarian"—came along, claiming to be an expert in feng shui. The locals asked him to take a look. After inspecting the mountain, the southerner said, “This mountain is shaped like a pig-dragon. That smaller peak is the head of the pig-dragon, and the foot of the mountain is its mouth. It will keep pushing forward!” The people begged him to find a way to resolve the issue. The southerner replied, “Pigs are most afraid of wolves. Build a temple to the wolf, and it will subdue the mountain.”

The people of Fozhou City built Erlang Temple (Temple of the Wolves) at the spot where the mountain’s “mouth” was. From then on, the mountain stopped moving forward. And that is how the mountain came to be called Zhulong Mountain.
