Shiny Eco-Friendly Giant Grouper Swims into the Yong'an Grouper Culture Festival

Kaohsiung's Yong'an District is famed for its grouper production. The annual Grouper Culture Festival kicks off on November 30, featuring not only delicious grouper feasts but also special eco-friendly initiatives this year. These include a thousand-person bike ride, in-depth tours, and a starry night gala. The district office has also crafted a large, shiny eco-friendly grouper installation art piece using recycled discarded CDs and wooden boards, painted and decorated. Many first-time visitors were amazed by its creativity.

The Yong'an Grouper Culture Festival enters its 14th year this year, taking place from November 30 to December 1 at Yong'an Leisure Park and Yong'an New Port. The district office has specially created a 5-meter-long shiny eco-friendly giant grouper as a welcome attraction. Riding the wave of the growing biking trend, the event calls for a thousand participants to bike around Yong'an starting at 9 a.m. on November 30.

The district office noted that on the first day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and on the second day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be discounted grouper sales. The public can also join interactive mini-games for a chance to take home fresh live fish. At 6:30 p.m. on November 30 at New Port Beach, there will be an evening gala titled “Shattering the Night Sky, Dreaming Wildly of Yong’an,” featuring performances by singers Show Lo, Georgia Lin, Huang Fei, and Wang Hong-en. The Nine Days Folk Arts Troupe will also put on a show.

In addition to dynamic performances and delicious grouper dishes, visitors can also explore Yong'an through in-depth tours to discover the beauty of local wetland ecology and the unique slab salt fields.
