Clam digging and a lucky draw for a 30-jin (15 kg) grouper are happening in Qigu.

The five-week-long "2013 Tainan City Qigu Sightseeing Red-Mouth Grouper Festival" kicks off on the 20th. The public can join free clam-digging activities, wetland eco-tours, and live music performances. There will also be seafood auctions and giveaways of 1,000 food portions, plus a lucky draw for a fresh 30-jin grouper. The series of events will take place every weekend through August 11.

The Qigu Sightseeing Red-Mouth Grouper Festival consists of three main activities: free "Clam Digging Experience" sessions on July 20, 21, August 3, and 4; discounted "Qigu Lake Eco Rafting Experiences" on July 27, 28, August 10, and 11 at just NT$100 per ticket (50% off, limited to 200 participants per day); and the "Qigu Seafood Festival" to be held from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM on July 28 at the Qigu District Office, featuring 1,000 free food portions, a seafood market, lucky draws, and live music.

Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te said that this year’s Qigu Red-Mouth Grouper Festival highlights include being "the most local," "the best deal," and "the most convenient." Visitors can enjoy Qigu’s unique ecological charm and participate in fun activities such as clam digging, concerts, eco-boat tours, the seafood festival, and live music. In addition, visitors can easily reach Qigu by taking the Blue Trunk Bus.

The Qigu District Office added that Qigu boasts Taiwan’s most beautiful lagoons, with top national production levels of milkfish, groupers, and white shrimp. This year’s Red-Mouth Grouper Festival will feature an expanded seafood fair, allowing the public to taste the freshest seafood. Additionally, local aquaculture experts have been invited to prepare a 30-jin grouper for the lucky draw.
