Menggu Waterfall, Caidie Waterfall, and Guanyin Waterfall are known as the three major hidden waterfall spots along the Pufu Highway. Before the 921 Earthquake, these three waterfalls were already popular attractions. However, following the 921 Earthquake and the devastation caused by Typhoon Mindulle in 2004, Menggu Waterfall once disappeared. In recent years, due to tectonic shifts, Menggu Waterfall has re-emerged!

Menggu Waterfall is located in Nanshanxi Tribe, Nanfeng Village, Ren’ai Township. The water is exceptionally clear, making it a favorite spot for photographers and travelers to wade in. Though the icy stream appears clear and shallow, there are still potential dangers near the deeper parts of the waterfall. Visitors are urged to stay cautious and avoid accidents due to unfamiliarity with the water conditions.

In addition to enjoying the waterfall scenery, Menggu Waterfall also serves as a habitat for butterflies, especially during their peak season from May to July. Although past natural disasters once damaged the butterfly ecosystem, in recent years, cooperation between the Council of Agriculture’s Endemic Species Research Institute, relevant agencies, and local tribal residents has helped educate visitors about butterflies and promote the conservation of their living environment.

Precautions:
1. The hike to the waterfall isn’t long, but the mountain road is narrow — drive carefully when passing other vehicles.
2. Some areas have fast-moving water; it is recommended to wear non-slip / creek shoes.
3. Take your trash with you, and no barbecuingto avoid polluting the water source.
4. Do not visit right after rain or during bad weather to prevent danger!
