Wanghaisi Mountain Fortress

Wanghaisi Mountain Fortress is a cultural heritage site protected by Yingkou City.

Wanghaisi Mountain Fortress is located on the summit of Wanghaisi Mountain in Zhangjiabao Village, Zhoujia Town, Dashiqiao City. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the terrain is rugged and highly defensible.

The fortress has an overall circular layout, covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters, and consists of two layers — inner and outer walls. The remnants of the inner wall are found in the southeast, with a surviving length of 15 meters, width of 1 meter, and height of 0.5 meters. The outer wall remains stretch from the east to the southwest, with a surviving length of 50 meters, width of 1.5 meters, and height of 1 meter. The northern side of the fortress is naturally protected by steep cliffs, with a remaining section of earthen wall about 0.2 meters high and over 10 meters long. Surface collections include gray pottery shards with sand inclusions and stacked patterns, which are typical artifacts from the Bronze Age. Based on this, the fortress is identified as a Bronze Age mountain stronghold. According to local residents, there was once a Guanyin Temple at the mountaintop. Among the collected samples were early pottery roof tiles, believed to be remnants of the temple’s construction materials.

In 2012, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2012] No. 173) designated Wanghaisi Mountain Fortress as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit. The cultural heritage protection scope and construction control zone announced by the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2013] No. 185) are as follows: the area within the fortress walls and within 10 meters outside the outer base of the walls is the protected zone; an additional 50-meter buffer beyond the protected zone is designated as a Class V construction control area.
