Recently, the 2012 "China Sports Lottery" National New Year Mass Hiking Fitness Event and the 5th Sichuan Qingcheng Mountain New Year’s Day Hiking Challenge were held at Qingcheng Mountain in Dujiangyan City. Five hundred hiking enthusiasts from across the province gathered at the foot of Qingcheng Mountain to welcome the New Year with a hike.
The event was organized by the General Administration of Sport of China and co-hosted by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Sichuan Provincial Sports Bureau, and other organizations. It is reported that on New Year’s Day 2012, the General Administration of Sport of China held the "China Sports Lottery" National New Year Mass Hiking Fitness Event in 10 cities nationwide. Beijing’s Badaling Great Wall served as the main venue, with nine other cities hosting sub-venues. The Sichuan sub-venue was set up at Qingcheng Mountain in Dujiangyan City, starting at the mountain gate of the Qingcheng Mountain Scenic Area and ending at the Tian Shi Dong Cave, covering a distance of 3 kilometers. Yang Xiaohua and Ma Lu from Chengdu University of Electronic Science and Technology won the men’s and women’s first places respectively, with Ma Lu also breaking the previous women’s record of 13 minutes and 52 seconds with a time of 13 minutes and 46 seconds.
