Xinhua News Agency, Kathmandu, May 21 (Reporter Chen Qiaoyan) — Officials from Nepal's Ministry of Tourism confirmed on the 21st that at least three foreign mountaineers died on their way back from climbing Mount Everest via the Nepalese southern route, including one Chinese climber.
Dipendra Poudel said that a German climber died on May 19 at an altitude of 8,700 meters in the Everest region; a Canadian climber died at 8,650 meters; and another Chinese climber was found dead at 8,600 meters on the 21st.
Poudel analyzed that these climbers were most likely killed by sudden strong winds. Another South Korean climber has been reported missing. He said that the high-altitude area of Everest recently experienced a rare and severe storm, posing a fatal threat to climbers on their descent.
