After enduring the long, harsh winter, spring has arrived as promised. Just as people can’t wait to shed their heavy coats, the air around Suzhou is already fragrant with the scent of blossoms. Every March, it’s essential for locals to go plum blossom viewing. The best spots to stroll among the blossoms and enjoy their fragrance are the Xiangxuehai (Fragrant Snow Sea) in Guangfu and the Linwu Plum Sea in the suburbs. But this weekend, instead of joining the plum blossom enthusiasts, I went alone to the enchanting and picturesque West Hill Island deep in Taihu Lake.
