The 2013 "Yuxi Cup" National Road Cycling Championship and the First Yuxi Open Road Cycling Race concluded after four days of competition on April 9 by the beautiful Fuxian Lake in Yunnan.
This event was one of the qualifying races for this year's National Games, drawing high attention from teams across all provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, the People's Liberation Army, and industry sports associations. The competition was divided into an urban segment and a lake-looping segment. On the first day, the individual time trial saw Shandong’s Zhao Jingbiao and Puyixian — a double-registered athlete from the PLA Yunnan team — take the men’s and women’s titles respectively. On the second day, the urban circuit race was won by Liaoning’s Shandan in the men’s category, while Shandong’s Liu Xiaoying claimed the women’s title.
On the 8th, all teams moved to Fuxian Lake to compete in the individual pursuit race. The race circled the Fuxian Lake highway, starting at Fuxian Road in front of the Chengjiang County Gymnasium. Riders cycled clockwise around the lake for two laps, covering a total distance of 190.6 kilometers. Shandong’s top cyclists Wang Meiyin and Zhao Jingbiao secured the men’s gold and silver medals with times of 4 hours, 37 minutes, 14 seconds and 4 hours, 39 minutes, 36 seconds respectively.
On the 9th, the 102-kilometer women’s individual race took place. In a closely contested sprint finish, Shandong’s Huan Jing narrowly edged out Heilongjiang’s star rider Liu Xin to claim the championship.
