The 2013 Xiangshan Cross-Country Race Concludes Successfully

    2013Year3Month17Day, the Spring Xiangshan Cross-Country Race and the 10th Xiangshan Cross-Country Race, jointly organized by Duowei Marathon Club and Yirun.com and co-sponsored by the Beijing Red Cross Blue Sky Rescue Team, commenced with the firing of the starting gun. Enthusiasts from major universities in Beijing, social institutions, as well as surrounding areas such as Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Tianjin, and Shenyang, gathered at Xiangshan to participate in this annual cross-country event. Getting close to nature, promoting green and environmentally friendly practices, and pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle have become essential aspects of modern life.
        At8o’clock30andminutes in the morning, the sound of a crisp gunshot signaled the departure of over 1,600 participants from the Yuhuangding Parking Lot at Xiangshan. A sea of people dressed in red T-shirts marched vigorously along the winding course amid the springtime mountain scenery, forming a ribbon-like flow that symbolized the interdependence between humans and nature.
        This event has been held for nine consecutive editions and is regarded by outdoor sports enthusiasts as a traditional spring hiking race in Beijing. The number of participants has increased year by year, with more young people joining what was previously an activity mainly participated in by middle-aged and elderly individuals.        
        The race concluded at 11:30 a.m., with He Wei from the men’s youth division winning first place by reaching the summit in just 28 minutes and 17 seconds. Competition was fierce across other categories, with results continually breaking previous records compared to last year. The route from Yuhuangding Parking Lot to the new Wangjing Tower at the summit spans 5.8 kilometers with an elevation gain of 730 meters, featuring a continuous uphill climb after the start — offering a moderate to challenging intensity.

       The successful organization of this event received strong support and assistance from volunteers at Beihang University, society at large, and the professional and dedicated Blue Sky Rescue Team. Special thanks go out to them all.
