The “Challenge 8 Hours” charitable hiking and trail running event, organized by the China Youth Development Foundation, advocates using the power of walking to help rural children read and grow up happily. It aims to mobilize widespread social support to raise funds, inspire those around us through our own actions, gather more love, and fulfill the reading dreams of rural children.
Currently, many participants in this year’s “Challenge 8 Hours” have already started their fundraising efforts. While raising money, they are also promoting the event in various ways—some through social media, some by hiking, and the gentleman below, Mr. Lei, has integrated the promotion of “Challenge 8 Hours” into his work and daily life.
Mr. Lei was a participant in the 2012 “Challenge 8 Hours.” He runs a shoe store that does fairly well. This year, he handed the store over to his wife to manage and became a delivery driver for JD.com himself. He delivers about a hundred packages a day, running all over Beijing, so he knows the city very well. In his own words, he’s someone who can’t sit still.
This year, Mr. Lei saw the recruitment information for “Challenge 8 Hours” on Weibo and decisively signed up with his son at the China Youth Development Foundation. He said: His son is too young to participate in the race, but he brought him to the foundation to have a look and let him experience it. Mr. Lei himself donated 600 yuan and started fundraising efforts. He also specifically took a few “Challenge 8 Hours” posters from the registration site, saying he would put them up on his car and in his store. That way, friends who come to buy shoes can see the event.
Two days later, our staff saw Mr. Lei’s post on Weibo. He had put our posters on the back window of his car, turning every place he went into a promotional spot for “Challenge 8 Hours.” He also said he felt he hadn’t taken enough posters and planned to get more later to show to his friends.

The “Challenge 8 Hours” charitable hiking and trail running event, although organized as a competition, tells stories of dreams and perseverance. We combine individual dreams for public good with the commitment to sports, generating even greater positive energy.
“Challenge 8 Hours”—we bring hope and fulfill dreams.
