China News Service, Sept. 9 — According to Taiwan’s “China News Network” on the 9th, Argentine authorities said that a 58-year-old Paraguayan man who went missing while cycling has been rescued after being stranded in the Andes Mountains for four months and has now been hospitalized for treatment.
According to reports, the rescued man, Gomez, said he started cycling over four months ago with plans to cross the Andes Mountains, which span Chile and Argentina. Unfortunately, his bicycle broke down, so he attempted to continue on foot. To make matters worse, he encountered two major snowstorms and completely lost his way.
Gomez took shelter in a mountain cabin, surviving on sugar and raisins he had brought along, as well as leftover food from the cabin. During this time, he even resorted to catching mice for food.
During his time trapped, Gomez lost 20 kilograms in weight and experienced dehydration. His family and friends reported him missing to authorities in May. Search efforts began afterward, but he was not found in the mountains until the 8th of this month.
