Women's mountaineering team conquers the Roof of Africa, average age 43.
Our reporter Wang Zhenlong reports with photos: China’s first all-female civilian mountaineering team, after 120 hours of arduous trekking, successfully had 10 of its members reach the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters above sea level, on January 9 Beijing time. Yesterday afternoon, the 12 women of the Kilimanjaro Women’s First Ascent Team gathered at Pinotage Restaurant in Beijing’s Sanlitun area.
Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain range. This “Roof of Africa,” mysterious and beautiful, with its perennial snowcap at the summit, has long been a beacon for mountaineering enthusiasts. The 12 women of this Kilimanjaro climbing team include a TV host, the owner of a law firm, and female entrepreneurs, with an average age of 43.
