The 14th IVV Olympics in 2015 Comes to Chengdu

    CVA, as the representative of the IVV member country in China, manages all its affairs and holds the invitation right to participate in IVV international events. In 2012, through the joint efforts of CVA and the People's Government of Chengdu Municipality, Chengdu won the bid to host the 14th IVV International Volkssport Olympics.

Time and Location of the Event

Time: September 25–29, 2015; Location: Chengdu City;
In 2015, Chengdu will become the first city in China to host the IVV Olympics, attracting thousands of outdoor sports enthusiasts from nearly 60 countries and regions, as well as tens of thousands of domestic participants.

Background of the IVV Olympics

    The International Volkssport Association (IVV) is dedicated to promoting non-competitive leisure sports among citizens and fostering international people-to-people exchanges. It was jointly established in 1968 by Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and other countries, with its headquarters located in Germany. As of 2012, the IVV had 53 member countries, 6,000 clubs, and nearly 200 million members. The IVV Olympics is an international sports event organized by the IVV for general citizens, held every two years in one of its member countries.

    This event is not only a grand gathering for IVV member countries, clubs, and outdoor sports enthusiasts, but also an extremely important platform for spreading the advanced concepts of the IVV international community worldwide. It also encourages people across nations to adopt healthy and green sports to transform their attitudes and lifestyles.

    The IVV Olympics includes events such as hiking, swimming, cycling, and skiing. Every participant can find the activity that suits them best and enjoy this major event. The first IVV Olympics was held in the Netherlands in 1989, with subsequent events taking place in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, and Greece. By 2013, thirteen editions had been held.

Impact of the Event

    The 2015 event will not only bring direct social and economic benefits to Chengdu but also serve as an opportunity to introduce IVV’s internationally advanced concepts and a green, healthy lifestyle to China. These values are of significant importance at this stage in realizing the “Beautiful China Dream” advocated by the current national leadership. It can be said that the 2015 “IVV International Volkssport Olympics” is not just an event for Chengdu, but a major event for all of China.

    Mr. Jiang Xiaoyu, then Vice President of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee, once highly praised: In a sense, the impact of the International Volkssport Olympics on Chinese society today is no less than that of the Beijing Olympics.
