2014 Shanghai Midi Festival Full Lineup and Performance Schedule Announced

    From April 25 to 27, the 2014 Shanghai Midi Festival will be held as scheduled at Sanjia Port in Pudong, Shanghai. Over the course of three days, three stages will feature performances by more than 100 Chinese and international bands and artists, along with a non-stop 56-hour electronic music extravaganza. The festival boasts China’s largest performance venue spanning 250,000 square meters, a fully equipped 50,000-square-meter Midi camping area, and will gather world-class music artists and countless fans at Sanjia Port. The 2014 Shanghai Midi Festival is set to become yet another grand youth gathering.

 

    Currently, the lineups and performance schedules for the MINI-Tang, UN (United Nations), and Yuan stages have all been released. Among Chinese mainland bands, a number of outstanding acts such as Da Hong Pao, Jiu Bao, Toy Boat Captain, and Velvet Highway have gradually become regulars at the Midi Festival, while names like Lou Lan He Zi, Da Wang Gang, Island Mood, and Wang Wei Ma are already familiar to many fans. Wan Zhong is a band formed by Yin Peng, the lead singer of Armory. Mo Xi Zi Shi, who rose to fame on "The Voice of China," is a long-time collaborator of Dou Wei and is making his Midi debut this year. The Shanghai-based bands Top Floor Circus and Cold Fairyland lead the local acts, while Forest Mu, Ting He, Duck Fight Goose, Friend or Foe, Chaos Mind, and Forget and Forgive will showcase the flair of Shanghai rock. As old friends of Midi, bands like Warhammer, Yaksha, Mumayi & Third Party, Distorted Machine, Reflector, Subs, AK-47, Sound Toy, and Nanhai Big Shark are essential live acts, and powerhouses representing Chinese rock such as Tong Yang, Xie Tian Xiao, and Escape Plan will also take the stage to support the 2014 Shanghai Midi Festival. Youth-oriented bands like The RouleTte, JZYO, The Five, 666, and Junior Ensemble will also perform as representatives of the Kids Midi program.

 

    The international lineup includes world-renowned British rock band Suede, specially invited by MINI and Midi, as well as the highly innovative Swiss percussion ensemble Bubble Beatz, both bringing thrilling performances to fans. Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, led by Larry Graham—who made significant contributions to funk music—will also perform in China for the first time, and you definitely don’t want to miss it. Other rare international acts worth checking out include German gothic metal band Lacrimas Profundere and Israeli powerhouse Orphaned Land.

 

    The Yuan stage will take you through an unprecedented festival experience in China. Over three days and two nights of non-stop electronic beats, it presents China’s most powerful audiovisual electronic music live show. Featuring top Chinese DJs who have performed on international stages—such as BEN HUANG, founder of Yan, Yang Bing who won an award at the Berlin Music Festival, DAVE K, music director of Electric China, and JASMINE LI with profound musical talent from a young age. There will also be outstanding international DJs based in Shanghai, including Vers@ille, Conrank, Florian Bo, Acid Pony Club, Roo, and many other producers. Special mention goes to DEXTER, the international superstar-in-the-making and young Chinese producer, as well as France’s ELECTRONAIL, Spain’s IVAN OLIVA, and America’s NASTY NATE, all of whom have performed at multiple overseas festivals. High expectations are also set for the HIPHOP HIJACK crew, a Shanghai-based team with an equal mix of Chinese and foreign artists who rap bilingually and boast a huge fan base. A total of 80 artists will perform on the Yuan stage. On Friday, the first 24 hours will kick off with powerful HOUSE and TECHNO beats. Saturday’s second 24 hours will offer a full range of electronic music styles, and the final 8 hours on Sunday will close the entire Yuan stage performances at the Shanghai Midi Festival with heavy bass.

    Ticket presales for the 2014 Shanghai Midi Festival are now open: single-day tickets are 120 RMB (presale) / 150 RMB (at the door); three-day passes are 300 RMB (presale) / 350 RMB (at the door), with only 3,000 presale three-day passes available.
