The 2014 Shanghai Midi Music Festival has been confirmed to take place from April 25–27 at Pudong Sanjia Port. The China Light – 2014 Yangtze River Midi Music Festival will also be held as scheduled during the October National Day holiday at Pudong Sanjia Port. This year’s Shanghai Midi Music Festival will feature the MINI-Tang, UN (United Nations), and Yuan stages, while the Beijing Midi Festival will include the UN (United Nations)-Tang, MINI-Song, Jäger-Yuan, Warring States, and Kids Midi stages. Headlining acts include British rock legends Suede and American funk master Larry Graham with his band Larry Graham & Graham Central Station. Also performing are powerhouse international acts such as German gothic metal band Lacrimas Profundere, Israeli band Orphaned Land, and Swiss percussion group Bubble Beatz. The 2014 Shanghai/Beijing Midi Music Festivals are set to launch in grand style.
In April 2014, Beijing – The United Nations Office in China and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will collaborate for the first time with China’s largest rock music festival, the Midi Music Festival, to spread positive energy through music, allowing more young people to learn about and engage with the work of the United Nations, further establishing a positive image of the UN among youth. This collaboration will unfold both online and offline, with UNDP hoping to use the power of music and social media to raise awareness about sustainable development among the Chinese public, especially young people. Promoting environmental protection concepts, raising public consciousness, and building a cleaner, greener future. The collaboration between the UN and the Midi Music Festival also includes the establishment of a “United Nations Stage” during both the Shanghai and Beijing Midi festivals, where both domestic and international bands will perform. The “United Nations Stage” will be a highlight of the Midi Music Festivals. During the festival, UN staff and volunteers will be on-site to participate in interviews and games with fans, introducing the work of the UN, the Millennium Development Goals, and promoting the spirit of volunteering alongside the bands performing on the “United Nations Stage.”
The “#SingForGreen” (#唱出绿色#) online campaign jointly launched by the UN and Midi aims to inspire thinking about a green planet and create a better future through musical interaction. The campaign specially invites Painkiller, a band performing at the Midi Festival, to serve as the “Online Ambassador,” who has rewritten lyrics for their famous song “Highway Song” as a special environmental short track. Netizens and fans can also create their own versions to express their views on a green future.
