China News Service, Nov. 25 — According to the Chinese-American Network, recently, the North California ski resort Lake Tahoe has received heavy snowfall, along with a wave of Chinese-American ski enthusiasts.
After four years of drought in California, thanks to this year’s El Niño phenomenon, the famous North California ski resort Lake Tahoe is now blanketed in snow, leading to booming business at the slopes. Many Chinese-American residents from the San Francisco Bay Area have also made the effort to drive over four hours early in the morning to experience the thrill of speeding through snowy forests and fields.
“If you want to breathe angelic air, then go to Lake Tahoe!” The literary master Mark Twain once praised it this way. At an elevation of over 6,200 feet and with a shoreline stretching 71 miles, Lake Tahoe spans both California and Nevada, with two-thirds of it located in California. It is a renowned ski destination in North California.
With azure skies, deep blue waters, and glistening white snow, people weave through cedar trees and gaze out from above at the shimmering lake surface in the distance—this is the unique pleasure of skiing at Lake Tahoe.
Over the past four years, due to California’s drought and lack of snowfall, the ski resorts at Lake Tahoe had been relatively quiet. But this year, thanks to the El Niño phenomenon, the first major snowfall arrived in early November, prompting many skiing enthusiasts of Chinese descent to hit the slopes early.
Wu Qihong from Dublin in the East Bay of San Francisco told reporters, “I bought a season pass for the past three years, but the snow wasn’t very good. This year, with the El Niño phenomenon, I’m hoping for better snow.”
Zhou Zhen-ni, who came from San Francisco, could hardly contain her excitement as she said, “It’s so much fun. The snow is great this year—the biggest in 14 years. Starting to ski this early makes me really happy.”
Also from the East Bay, Wu You, who works in the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley, told reporters, “I had a pretty good time skiing today. The snow here is really nice. It’s only November, and having such good snow is already great.”
Located more than 190 miles from downtown San Francisco, Lake Tahoe is the top vacation choice for Bay Area residents, with ski season typically running from November to April each year. (Yan Jiayu)
