Another Qixi Festival is here, bringing unique emotions to everyone—married or unmarried, in a relationship or single. This year’s Qixi (August 1–2) will see the launch of the “Palace” Camping Festival at Hengdian’s Ming & Qing Imperial Palace, themed around “youth, nostalgia, and fun.” Here’s a sneak peek at the festival’s four major highlights.
Highlight 1: “Palace” Camping & Qixi Speed Dating—Time to “Share a Tent”
You may have gone camping in the mountains or by the sea, but you’ve definitely never experienced “palace” camping like this before. With a vast 79,000-square-meter lawn, majestic palace towers, and the imperial grandeur of golden tiles and red walls, stargazing in a tent here offers a truly unique vibe. Don’t have a tent? No worries—the scenic area’s visitor center offers tent rentals to fulfill every camper’s small wish to “share a tent.”
What’s a Qixi Festival without “Cowherd and Weaver Girl”? Zhejiang TV Channel 6’s hit show “Love Wins” will be live-streaming from the “Palace” Camping Festival. Contestants this season will camp in tents within the palace grounds—singles attending the festival might want to consider signing up on-site.
7,700 balloons light up the night sky—make a wish
On every Qixi Festival, lovers silently make wishes under the moon. Couples hope for everlasting love, while singles hope to find their true soulmate. During the camping festival, a special Qixi wish-making event will take place.
On the day of the event, 7,700 glowing balloons carried by a flower float will slowly make their way to the center of the square. As night falls, couples will join hands in a circle to release the glowing balloons, lighting up the entire night sky. In this magical atmosphere, making a wish or confessing your feelings on the spot just might come true.
An ’80s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Youth” Theme Party
“Time flows on, carrying stories of the years, changing three people, right there in that sensitive and tearful youth…” Remember those moving “stories of time” that touched our hearts? Maybe we’ve long forgotten the last time we truly let loose—but when those nostalgic youth songs play again, it’s like youth is meeting us once more.
On Qixi night, gather with old classmates or bring the kids for a trip down memory lane. Relive classic hits like “The Story of Time,” BEYOND, and Little Tigers—songs that captured our teenage years. Forget who sang them; what matters is that we sang them together.
Open-air movies & childhood games
On summer evenings, open-air movie screens are set up early in the schoolyard. While waiting for the film to start, boys love playing ping-pong or soccer, girls skip rope, and adults sit on small stools in front of the screen, fanning themselves as they chat. Young couples wait until nightfall to sneak out, watching classic love stories on the big screen while whispering sweet nothings. These joyful summer memories remain cherished by many.
The camping festival will bring back those childhood memories—same small stools, same big screens, same childhood games, same classic love stories. Rock bands, beer, barbecue, and open-air movies will rock your youth right here in the palace.
