I. The Most Scenic
Xuanwu Lake and Purple Mountain are two of Nanjing’s most famous scenic spots—one once being the largest imperial garden lake in China, known as the “Pearl of Jinling,” and the other one of the Four Famous Mountains of Jiangnan, celebrated as the “Jinling Beauty.” This mountain marathon perfectly combined Nanjing’s most renowned natural, historical, and cultural landscapes with competitive sports. The organizing committee invited world-class trail running experts to design the course, which passed by iconic Nanjing landmarks such as Xuanwumen, Taicheng, Jiuhua Mountain Park, Baima Park, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Shanxiao Pavilion, and Jiangwang Temple, allowing participants to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Nanjing while racing through it. The course design incorporated mountainous terrain, trails, and forest paths, featuring continuous climbs and descents, as well as a18—30-kilometer “wall” section that tested the athletes’ endurance and technique.
Beyond the scenery, there was also delicious food. A variety of Nanjing specialty snacks were available at the finish area, allowing participants to enjoy the views, get some exercise, and indulge in the local cuisine.
