Last updated 2026-11-08 — While new retail has been packaged by various events as a cure-all panacea, the 10th ISPO Sports Industry Forum — ISPO’s flagship event bringing the most trend-driven industry insights to China’s sports sector — set to kick off on January 18, 2019, brings to brands and retailers in the industry ...

In recent years, China’s economy has been in a “transition” process from extensive to refined growth, with many businesses struggling under the burden of inventory, rent, and staffing. More companies are beginning to consider one common question:How can we leverage technology and business model innovation to improve the operational efficiency of existing business?

As “new retail” has been marketed by various events as a universal “panacea,” the 10th ISPO Sports Industry Forum — ISPO’s flagship event bringing the most trend-driven industry insights to China’s sports sector — set to open on January 18, 2019, introduces a brand-new concept — “Industry Lightweighting”.

This forum focuses on “Digitization” and “Professional Services” as key approaches, providing a comprehensive explanation to sports brands and retailers on how to achieve “lightweighting” in “supply chains” and “retail models,” helping more brands and retailers realize a “successful transition.”

The morning session of the forum centers on “Digital Technology for Lightweighting the Supply Chain,” opening with a speech by Dean Jing Linbo from the China Social Sciences Evaluation Academy on “Model Innovation in the Sports Industry under the New Economic Landscape,” introducing the path of industrial development amidst today’s complex and volatile international environment and China’s new economic conditions. Following that, Mr. Chen Guo, Global Partner at IBM Global Business Services, will deliver a presentation on “Digitally Enabled End-to-End Value Chain Operations,” sharing insights from his 26 years of professional consulting experience on where the “key elements of enterprise digital transformation” truly lie. Mr. Zheng Qingyu, CEO of Lüzhi Technology, will then showcase the real value 3D technology brings to brands through a practical case study of Under Armour.

The afternoon session shifts focus to “Professional Services for Lightweighting Retail Models,” featuring Mr. Cheng Zhiyuan, founder of Banma Travel, and Ms. Ou Haifang, founder of Shuoning Business, who will introduce to retailers how “sports tourism” and “C2M (Customer-to-Manufacturer) models” can help retail businesses improve their commercial models and product structures, achieving “retail model lightweighting.” Ms. Gao Wei’e, founder of Self Mountain Outdoor, with years of deep involvement in online retail, will share her thoughts on “how brick-and-mortar stores can ‘empower’ online retail,” bringing more confidence to physical sports retailers about future development. Additionally, Mr. Sun Jian, Planning Director at Alimama, will discuss “what new forms of ‘new retail’ Alibaba plans to explore beyond the introduction of ‘new retail.’”

Besides these insightful keynote speeches, the forum will also feature two exclusive releases:China Kayaking Industry Annual Development ReportandChina Outdoor Products Market Research Report. Without a doubt, these two top-tier domestic industry reports will provide more detailed data to support future trends in industry development.

With such rich and substantial content, this forum is not only a New Year’s gift from ISPO to the entire industry, but also a great opportunity for the industry to look forward to a new round of development. All brands and retailers in the industry are cordially invited to join this feast of ideas.
