A moment of leisure, returning to the joy of simplicity

Happy Tea House is another gathering place for outdoor enthusiasts, following in the footsteps of the Happy Ski Team. With happiness as its starting point and a tea house as its base, it offers a platform for like-minded people to connect and converse. It was officially established and put into use in Shenzhen in 2012.

Touched by the joyful, sincere, free, and simple atmosphere of Happy Tea House, Li Hao from Nanjing Ningfei and Hu Ge, the person in charge of Happy Tea House, spontaneously proposed during a conversation: could Happy Tea House be brought into the Nanjing Outdoor Exhibition?

And so...

In 2015, Happy Tea House’s offline pop-up store officially landed in Nanjing, with the theme“Forming all kinds of good connections with a mind free of gain.”Tao Dawei, as the chief designer, gathered the strength of a group of outdoor friends to build Happy Tea House.

In 2016, Happy Tea House’s theme was“The Craftsman’s Heart.”In addition to tea, the tea house also carefully selected and displayed some handcrafted outdoor products.

In 2017, Happy Tea House took“Tea and Zen as One Flavor”as its theme, introducing traditional Chinese cultural wellness exchanges that emphasized practice and experience.

In 2018, Happy Tea House centered around the theme“Tea Table on the Move”, calling on everyone to combine movement with tea drinking, return to nature, and promote the culture of combining activity and tranquility in Chinese outdoor brands.

Every year at outdoor expos, this tranquil corner always attracts visitors to stop and linger. Boiling water, brewing tea, tasting tea, gathering, chatting, resting, sharing... In an instant, the space returns to peace and is filled with more smiles.

When you’re tired of walking around the exhibition, come here for a cup of clear tea to recharge before continuing your journey. This place is also beloved by designers. As Tao Dawei said, “Happy Tea House is a space in the outdoor community for open conversations. The tea friends here are not only knowledgeable about the outdoors and tea art, love life, but are also broad-minded, enthusiastic, and unpretentious. And the Happy Tea House that joins outdoor exhibitions is a utopia for such designers: some craft woodwork, some study Zen tea, and others are passionate about designing outdoor gear.”

Happy Tea House seeks not profit, but simple joy. From 2015 to 2018, over four years, Nanjing Ningfei and Happy Tea House collaborated to “replicate” four Happy Tea Houses at exhibition sites — each adapting to its surroundings and offering a unique view at every step.In 2019, the “Asia-Pacific Outdoor Expo” & “Happy Tea House” will continue our moment of leisure under the theme of “return.”

A touch of craftsmanship, returning to an original, simple aspiration

Speaking of Tao Dawei, the chief designer of Happy Tea House, he is an outdoor enthusiast and also a “carpenter” with a simple heart. “To live is to live the life you want. Being a carpenter may not make you rich, but having a craftsman’s heart means doing things well and staying close to passion.”

In 2015, he sold his shares in his clothing company and chose to return to his hometown to start a business anew. Back home, he formed a bond with old wood, which gave rise to"TaoSuo"; as well as the upcoming"TaoSuo · Lakeside Retreat", a wooden-themed homestay.

He said, "The gentleness of wood, the sturdiness of the timber, made me feel as if I had traveled back a thousand years, wandering alongside ancient people and artifacts. The so-called nature of wood cultivates human nature, nurtures the human spirit — this was the original intention behind founding TaoSuo."

In 2018, after "TaoSuo" had to pause for a year due to forced demolition, Tao Dawei decided to press on, staying true to his original aspiration: to dwell among wood and by the water. He established "TaoSuo · Lakeside Retreat", using aged timber marked by the passage of time to tell new stories, bringing products to life with woodworking artistry in a new space, and exploring more connections between old objects and new spaces, between city and homeland.

He said, "Outdoor sports are about traveling farther, seeing more scenery, and seeking the meaning of life from the outside world. Happy Teahouse, as a place to return to, becomes an ideal spot for hikers to rest, reflect, and recharge. This is also a continuation of the TaoSuo spirit." Therefore, the homestay "TaoSuo · Lakeside Retreat" will not only incorporate woodworking art but will also include elements such as Happy Teahouse and outdoor activities, allowing more people to experience its simple original intention here and return to a life of simplicity and joy.
