Exhibition | Confidence in the outdoor sports industry is revitalized as brands like Tittallon, Fire-Maple, and UTO showcase outdoor aesthetics at ISPO SHANGHAI

Since 2002, China’s outdoor industry has systematically carried out industry statistics. Over the past decade, the sector has experienced rapid growth, with a compound annual growth rate of up to 50%. However, according to feedback from outdoor sports associations and clubs, the number of participants in low-altitude mountain sports has significantly decreased. Outdoor activities have become increasingly commercialized and scenic-spot oriented, and consumer demand for traditional, highly functional apparel and gear has also declined accordingly. As a result, market growth has slowed markedly in recent years, and industry professionals have adopted a more conservative outlook on the future of the sector.

But in reality, the number of people “playing outdoors” has not decreased—pursuing functionality does not conflict with comfort and safety.Brands are leveraging various technologies to shed the old labels of being “grueling” or “only for the hardcore,” and are moving toward a more relaxed and comfortable direction..

Behind the diversification of the outdoor audience lies greater integration. The main consumer demographic has changed. The industry is adapting its design strategies and distribution channels to embrace broader fields.

From conservative designs focused on practicality, to all-terrain functional styles, to the trendy minimalist aesthetic—as generations like the post-90s and post-00s join the core consumer base, trends continue to evolve. Outdoor sportswear is affected by unpredictable market shifts and faces competitive pressure from traditional apparel and sportswear brands. It once grappled with crises such as excess inventory and the need for brand reinvention.

After years of exploration, outdoor brands have gradually found a new direction. While maintaining technological innovation and upgrading to meet various requirements such as climate, movement, environment, and safety from a functional standpoint, they are incorporating trendy elements and moving toward “urbanization” and “multi-scenario” development. Now, as the industry’s adjustment period nears its end, inventory has been further cleared, brands have become more familiar with the market, and more positive signals have emerged, paving the way for healthy and stable growth.

Among the many companies responding to market changes, leading brands with stronger market insight are showing clearer trends in “balancing design and performance,” “cross-category integration,” “outdoor aesthetic perspectives,” and “multi-scenario fusion.”

Fire-Maple, founded in 2003, specializes in outdoor cooking equipment and has grown into a well-known domestic and international outdoor brand. Its product designs have earned widespread professional recognition both at home and abroad, winning the ISPO Award gold medal multiple times.

Whether in snowy mountains, grasslands, deserts, or Gobi dunes, Fire-Maple’s bright orange gear always stands out. The brand’s “mobile kitchen” makes it possible to “enjoy gourmet food outdoors.” No matter where you are, its compact and portable cookware transforms backpack meals from compressed biscuits and self-heating military rations into fresh vegetables, meat, and rice. Fire-Maple’s dedication not only ensures that outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a hot meal and a cup of warm water in any environment but also brings outdoor sports closer to a quality lifestyle.

Tittallon, established in 2008, is committed to the research, design, sales, and promotion of professional, stylish, and personalized outdoor and ski apparel. The brand’s products seamlessly blend high performance with design aesthetics, advocating for a new balance between nature and human development.

In addition to professional sportswear, Tittallon has specifically launched urban and lifestyle collections. Using snug, practical elastic fabrics, it breaks away from the traditional image of loose and bulky outdoor or ski apparel, offering a more fashionable and casual feel. With professional-grade outdoor materials and craftsmanship, the brand also delivers an urban style that is both distinctive and fulfills city dwellers’ desire to “climb mountains and dive into seas.”

For ten years since its founding, UTO has focused on the R&D, design, and production of seamless sportswear. The brand has achieved remarkable success in internet-based strategies by collecting big data from athletes and using seamless knitting technology to integrate high-performance fibers, creating specialized sportswear inner layers.

In terms of product design, UTO emphasizes standout characteristics in mainstream fashion trends such as “individuality, style, and innovation.” While ensuring functionality, it enhances the expression of body lines, resulting in a more youthful and fashionable look. In terms of product categories, UTO covers extreme sports, professional sports, leisure sports, and children’s sports, providing seamless, form-fitting sportswear for enthusiasts of running, fitness, skiing, and other activities.
