Selfless Mountain Rescue Moves Gore
The Mountain Rescue Team is a professional mountain rescue organization under the Emergency Rescue Promotion Center of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. It serves as the highest authority and command center for national mountain rescue teams and is a non-profit public welfare organization. All rescue team members are volunteers who have undergone multiple screenings and rigorous training, with the majority being professional mountain and outdoor sports leaders and enthusiasts.
“At first, the team’s equipment was very basic, and members often had to pay out of their own pockets to equip the team. But they never complained, and continued to help others with their selfless dedication and solid rescue skills. Everyone has their own day jobs, but whenever they had time, they would organize rescue training on their own,” said Wang Xin, captain of the Mountain Rescue Team, reflecting on the team’s growth with deep emotion.
It was this spirit of selflessness that moved the Gore-Tex® brand. At the time, there were very few professional and formal rescue organizations in society, and the emergence of the Mountain Rescue Team was a significant boost to the healthy development of outdoor sports. During the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, the Mountain Rescue Team was among the first to arrive at the core disaster area to carry out rescues, fully equipped with a complete set of Gore-Tex® gear provided by Gore. The rescue process was extremely perilous, with frequent aftershocks and continuous rainfall. It was the safety assurance provided by Gore-Tex® products that enabled the Mountain Rescue Team to achieve the only record of rescuing eight survivors in the Pengzhou area since May 14.
