A 36-year-old female hiker surnamed Wu was climbing the Central Mountain Range alone and fell into a valley near Penjushan in Xinyi Township on the 19th. Rescue efforts are currently underway by both land and air. It has been confirmed that this hiker is Wu Jiyun, a well-known “bikini hiker” in the “hiking community,” who gained her nickname for changing into a bikini to take photos after reaching mountain summits and has a large fan base.
According to media reports, Wu Jiyun, who had some fame in the hiking world, often wore bikinis while standing atop Taiwan’s famous peaks to take photos, thanks to her hot physique. She managed the fan page “G’s Alpine Footprints in Bikinis,” which had nearly 4,000 followers. Upon learning of her fall, netizens gathered to send her prayers.
However, it is understood that Lin Wenhe, deputy director of the National Park Headquarters, stated that there is no record of any application for park entry from Wu. They have no information regarding her hiking plan or route. Wu is suspected of engaging in “illegal hiking” (known as “climbing black mountains”), which violates the National Park Act and the Nantou County Mountain Activities Management Autonomous Ordinance. Rescue remains the top priority for now. Details will be investigated after the search and rescue operation concludes.
The Nantou County Fire Bureau said that the woman fell into a 20 to 30-meter-deep valley on the afternoon of the 19th while traveling along the route from Penjushan to Wushuangshe in Xinyi Township. She is conscious but sustained injuries to her upper body and is unable to move her lower body. She reported the incident to the fire department via a contact person surnamed Yang. Police and firefighters launched a land and air rescue mission. An Air Force helicopter took off on the afternoon of the 20th but turned back due to bad weather. The first ground rescue team is expected to arrive at the scene on the 21st.
