New Taipei City’s Shenkeng District is famous for its tofu, but in the past, it was also a hub for tea merchants. On the 26th, the New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau will take the public on an outdoor mini trip to host an observation and experience activity along the Paogao Shenkeng Tea Mountain Ancient Trail. Visitors generally associate Shenkeng with its old street and tofu, but historically, Shenkeng was once a distribution center for tea sales. The surrounding area is covered with lush green tea leaves, creating beautiful layers of greenery.
The Agriculture Bureau is organizing “Eco-Masters Lounge – Forest Series – Outdoor Topic” – A Century of Tea Mountains: Friendly Farming Methods Outdoor Observation Experience. They have invited Wu Yuntian, chairman of the Taipei Go Outdoors Outdoor Life Sharing Association, to lead the public on this outdoor mini trip.
This free outdoor observation experience will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the 26th at the Paogao Shenkeng Tea Mountain Ancient Trail in Shenkeng District. Registration is available online starting today (registration URL: http://goo.gl/WAwhPS). Slots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t miss your chance to sign up.
The Agriculture Bureau pointed out that the Paogao Shenkeng Tea Mountain Ancient Trail is very close to the Taipei metropolitan area and easily accessible. You can drive right to the trailhead, where you’ll find terraced fields, the Lin family’s grass-roof cottage, earthen steps, and the lush forests and waterfall at Paogao. The atmosphere is serene and tranquil.
The Agriculture Bureau stated that the picturesque Tea Mountain Ancient Trail is considered by hikers as a hidden gem where modern people can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The area still preserves Taiwan’s traditional rural culture from a century ago. Local tea gardens are managed using friendly farming methods that incorporate the wisdom of ancestors. Through educational experiences, participants not only gain agricultural knowledge and understand the hardships of farming but also connect with society and promote local sustainable agriculture. This allows more people to learn about environmentally friendly natural farming methods and tea garden tea-making techniques, preserving the century-old legacy of the Tea Mountains.
In addition, the “Eco-Masters Lounge Series Lecture – Ocean Series” will kick off in April. On April 2nd, there will be “Deep Sea Canteen: Sustainable Seafood,” and on May 21st, “Ocean Wanderers: Sea Turtles,” both held in the meeting room at New Taipei City Hall (No. 161, Section 1, Zhongshan Road, Banqiao District, New Taipei City). On June 18th, the outdoor topic will take place at the Gongliao District Marine Resource Breeding Park and Ma’ao Fishing Port, featuring “Sea Journey: Learn About Marine Life Restoration” and other rich and fascinating ecological lectures.
