The colors and names of these filters reflect the unique characteristics of each location, allowing Taiwan lovers to rediscover the simple joys of life amidst the city alleys, fulfilling the dream of spontaneous travel. These filters also offer foreigners a chance to experience Taiwan’s local hues, making every photo feel like a journey through Taiwan’s cities.
Since its launch, the “SelfieCity” app has centered around city-themed filters, offering visual effects that make users feel like they’re snapping photos in major global cities. This latest update takes it a step further by naming the filters after famous Taiwanese tourist spots. The six new “Taiwan Travel” filter packs include: “Drizzly Taipei,” which uses cool blue tones to evoke the feeling of Taipei under light rain; “Afternoon Bookstore,” where you wander through a vast universe of reading under soft yellow lighting; “Tamsui,” featuring orange-red hues reminiscent of the glowing Tamsui River at sunset; “Small Joys,” using radiant warm tones to convey a sense of subtle happiness; “Strolling Through Qingtian,” inspired by the colors of Taipei’s Qingtian Street, with lush greens resembling an urban orchid; and “Forest of Serenity,” based on the famous Nantou Lugu Township scenic spot. With its misty visuals, this filter makes you feel like you’re in a heavenly paradise. Even if you can’t visit Forest of Serenity in person, you can still capture ethereal photos using the Taiwan Travel filters.
In addition to retaining Meitu’s signature user-friendly and easy-to-operate design, “SelfieCity” allows one-touch filter application, beautification, skin smoothing, and depth-of-field effects. It also enables users to fine-tune both human and landscape colors in a single step, instantly producing professional-looking urban-style photos without the need for time-consuming editing. However, to capture truly professional urban-style shots, renowned Taiwanese photographer Sean Huang (aka Pineapple) suggests, “Outdoor photography differs from indoor studio lighting—it demands a better grasp of natural light. Compared to indoor shoots, outdoor settings allow for more diverse moods through interaction with nature. For instance, the reflection in a pond paired with a hint of mist can create a surreal, dreamlike effect.” Meitu stated that it hopes the Taiwan Travel filters will inspire people to venture outdoors for micro-trips, reinterpret Taiwan’s local charm through their lenses, and deepen their appreciation and love for the beauty of Taiwan’s unique character.
