A body found hanging in Hongludi turns to skeleton after discovery by hikers
Hikers in the Hongludi mountain area of Zhonghe District in New Taipei City discovered what appeared to be a human figure moving around in the woods about 30 meters off the trail at around 1 p.m. today (the 13th). Upon closer inspection, they were shocked to find a skeleton hanging from a tree and immediately reported it to the police. Officers from the Nanshi Police Station of the Zhonghe Precinct cordoned off the area upon arrival, and forensic investigators have also been on-site collecting evidence. So far, no identification documents or suicide note have been found. Police stated that as the area is rarely visited, the hanging had gone unnoticed for some time. They are now checking missing persons reports to identify the deceased.

On the eve of Police Day, the Taiping Police Friends Office and the Taiping Police Precinct celebrated this special day for law enforcement officers. The Fourth Disaster Relief and Ambulance Brigade of the New Taipei City Fire Department chose today (the 9th) at 9 AM to hold a mountain hiking and blessing event for physical training in the first half of 2018 for firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and their families at Taiping Temple in Xindian District. 8 Filipino migrant workers group up for a hike, get lost after dark and are rescued by fire department via English communication
Eight Filipino migrant workers organized a hiking trip via Facebook and gathered on the 8th to hike the Tangmada Mountain Trail in Heping District, Taichung. They got lost in the mountains after dark due to miscalculating their descent time. The Taichung City Fire Department received the report at 8:39 p.m., and the command center communicated with them in English, successfully locating and rescuing all eight. A group of one man and seven women, all Filipino migrant workers, organized the hike via Facebook and met up on the 8th to climb Tangmada Mountain, one of the "Seven Great Mountains of Guguan." Due to misjudging their descent time and not bringing flashlights, they got lost in the mountains after dark. The fire department received the report at 8:39 p.m. Since the eight individuals did not speak Chinese, the command center dispatched personnel to communicate with them in English. They learned about the situation of the stranded hikers and guided them to send a location via text message. However, due to unstable internet in the mountainous area, they were unable to open the link. They then used the “Foreign Nationals in Taiwan Life Advisory Hotline” to conduct a three-way call, translated instructions for using Google Maps, successfully obtained the location, and dispatched a team to assist.
Gunshot reported on Blue Highway hiking trail; man collapses after headshot, horrifying hikers
A shocking case of apparent suicide by firearm occurred on South China Road in Taichung City, known for its scenic "Blue Highway" views. Police received a report of a body lying on the road early on the 7th. Upon arrival, they found a 31-year-old man surnamed Yang lying beside South China Road, with blood everywhere and a modified firearm nearby. He was sent to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Authorities are currently investigating the man’s motive for suicide and the origin of the gun. The incident happened around 4:50 a.m. on the 7th. Hikers in the mountainous area told police that at around 4 a.m., while walking from the Vehicle Inspection Office toward Dajia District, they noticed a man acting strangely, frequently looking back. The man then stood by the roadside smoking. Shortly afterward, a sound resembling a firecracker—later confirmed to be a gunshot—was heard. A large amount of aircraft wreckage found on a hiking trail; the pilot remains missing
The Han Kuang Exercise commenced today (4th), during which an F-16 fighter jet took off from Hualien and went missing at 1:43 p.m. in the airspace near Keelung. Hikers reported finding a significant amount of aircraft wreckage approximately 3 kilometers along the hiking trail near the Wufenshan Radar Station. The debris is suspected to be from an F-16 crash, and the fire department continues to search for the missing pilot in the surrounding area. The fire department stated that at a location 3 kilometers along the Wufenshan Radar Station trail, the main parachute of the aircraft and skid marks were discovered. The exact impact site is still being determined, and the smell of fuel has been detected nearby. Additionally, a drag parachute believed to be from the fighter jet was found at the scene, but the pilot has not yet been located, and search efforts by the fire brigade are ongoing. The New Taipei City Fire Department reported that a total of 22 vehicles, 67 police and firefighters, and 3 volunteer firefighters have been deployed for the rescue operation. Mountain Climbing and Large Events: Pingtung Has Regulations
The "Pingtung County Mountain Climbing Activity Management Self-Government Ordinance" and the "Pingtung County Private Sector Large-Scale Gathering Event Safety Management Self-Government Ordinance" have been officially enacted. In the future, those entering the designated controlled mountain areas in Pingtung County for hiking must comply with relevant regulations. Violators who are involved in accidents may be required to cover the full cost of search and rescue operations. Additionally, large-scale events with over 1,000 participants lasting two hours or more must be reported in advance. Those who fail to apply for permission and encounter mountain accidents will be liable for search and rescue costs. In recent years, hiking has become increasingly popular, with occasional accidents occurring that require substantial manpower and resources for rescue efforts—wasting national resources and putting rescuers in dangerous situations. Given the abundance of hiking trails within Pingtung County, the county government began planning and formulating the "Pingtung County Mountain Climbing Activity Management Self-Government Ordinance" two years ago as a preventive measure and to conserve disaster relief resources. Undeterred by Chronic Illnesses and Disabilities: Chiayi Hikers Conquer 100 Sacred Peaks
Over 20 hikers from the Zhuoloshan Mountain Climbing Association of Chiayi City and the Chiayi County Mountain Climbing Association braved the scorching May sun to summit Yangtou Mountain. Among them were several who suffer from serious illnesses but persevered in conquering the sacred peaks, demonstrating remarkable resilience in the face of life’s challenges. Among them, 65-year-old Lin Xianqing holds a disability card; Chen Shi suffers from asthma and cardiopulmonary disease; Lu Zhenyuan has a cardiac stent; 61-year-old Li Bingdan has cardiovascular disease and once had to be airlifted off Qilai Mountain due to an attack during a climb; Huang Jianhui manages diabetes with insulin injections yet still completed two rounds of 100 sacred peaks.

When the scheduled meeting time passed and Yang was nowhere to be found, his worried teammates reported the situation to the authorities on the 22nd, prompting the fire department to launch a land and air search operation. The fire department noted that Yang, who had gone missing, said on the 21st that he didn’t need to be rescued. But on the 22nd, he called for help, complaining of foot and stomach pain, asking firefighters to come quickly. However, once the rescuers were assembled, Yang changed his mind again and said he didn’t need help. Just the rescue operation for Yang alone involved three helicopter sorties and 12 ground search personnel.
