A shocking case of apparent suicide by firearm occurred on South China Road in Taichung City, known for its scenic "Blue Highway" views. Police received a report of a body lying on the road early on the 7th. Upon arrival, they found a 31-year-old man surnamed Yang lying beside South China Road, with blood everywhere and a modified firearm nearby. He was sent to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Authorities are currently investigating the man’s motive for suicide and the origin of the gun.
The incident happened around 4:50 a.m. on the 7th. Hikers in the mountainous area told police that at around 4 a.m., while walking from the Vehicle Inspection Office toward Dajia District, they noticed a man acting strangely, frequently looking back. The man then stood by the roadside smoking. Shortly afterward, a sound resembling a firecracker—later confirmed to be a gunshot—was heard. When they turned back to look, they saw the man had collapsed in the grass by the roadside and immediately called the police out of fear.
Police arrived at the scene and transported the man to the hospital. Medical personnel found he had a gunshot wound to the right temple. Investigators believe the deceased, surnamed Yang, likely used his right hand to shoot himself in the temple, with the bullet penetrating his skull. One shell casing was found at the scene, and authorities are still searching for the bullet. His family has been notified to assist with arrangements.
Police stated that the man apparently hiked up on foot before shooting himself by the roadside. They are still investigating his motive for suicide and tracing the possible source of the firearm.
