Yingde was historically known as Yingzhou and "famous worldwide for its black tea production." Today, the Yingde tea-growing region has become the largest export-oriented tea production base in Guangdong Province, home to six major categories of tea and over forty high-quality tea cultivars, making it a renowned tea-producing area in China. On the western outskirts of Yingde city in Maku, there is a high-aroma tea seedling breeding base funded by the National Ministry of Agriculture and designated by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture — the Yingde City Tea Plant Elite Cultivar Breeding Demonstration Farm. Covering an area of over a thousand acres, it is surrounded by green hills, shaded by lush trees, blessed with fresh and moist air, and often veiled in mist, offering quite picturesque scenery. It has now been developed into the latest tourist tea garden — the "Tea Fun Garden."
