Nanshan Shoushou Temple
Nanshan Shoushou Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.
Nanshan Shoushou Temple is situated on the north bank of the Beijiang River, approximately two kilometers south of Yingde City, within the scenic Nanshan Scenic Area. According to historical records, the temple was originally constructed in the fifth year of the Dazhongtong era of the Liang Dynasty (533 AD), dating back over 1,400 years. It is one of the earliest and most prominent Buddhist temples in the Lingnan region. Legend has it that after being ordained at Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou, Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, traveled north to Caoxi in Shaoguan to establish Nanhua Temple. On his way, he passed through Yingde and gave sermons at Shoushou Temple, spreading Buddhist teachings. The temple benefits from the spiritual essence of Nanshan and radiates the light of Buddhism across the world. Since ancient times, it has attracted numerous scholars and literati who came here to seek tranquility, enjoy the scenery, and worship. Notable figures such as Yuanjie of the Tang Dynasty, the great Song Dynasty literary master Su Dongpo, and the renowned Yi scholar Shi Ruli have all visited the temple and composed poems and verses.
