Huanghua was established in the second year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1369). The entire terrain resembles a natural small basin, and the Yingxi Peak Forest Corridor spans the entire area of Huanghua, surrounded by peculiar peaks that look like a blooming small yellow flower. Additionally, the fields and mountains are covered with yellow flowers in autumn, hence the name.

Huanghua Town features rich peak landscapes, dense forests, and abundant water bodies. Its peak forest wonders are unique in the world. It also has a profound tea culture, long-standing Hakka culture, and ancestral hall culture, integrating forest, mountain, and cultural landscapes. Huanghua’s scenic attractions include the karst landscape combined with natural villages—the Yingxi Peak Forest Corridor; the “Little Potala Palace”—Pengjia Ancestral Hall; the highest peak in Yingxi—Qishan (Wenpo Mountain); the rugged and expansive Yangyan Cave; China’s premier underground river adventure rafting—the Tiger Valley Underground River Rafting; the “Second Zhaozhou Bridge”—Yongfeng Ancient Bridge; Luojiatang Wenbi Tower, Mingjing Reflection, Pen Tip Peak, Ying Stone Forest, ancient stone fortress ruins, and Gongzheng–Xicun Peak Forest, among other sights.

Local specialties of Huanghua include Huanghua chicken, Huanghua tofu, tofu skin, bamboo shoots, and a series of rock-back high-mountain tea products. Huanghua chickens are free-range in the mountains, with golden skin, firm meat, and a strong chicken flavor. The Rock-Back High-Mountain Tea series, including “Peak Forest Summit” and “Bicui,” mainly feature varieties such as Yanwu Jian (green tea), oolong tea, high-mountain mist tea, and high-mountain Baxian tea. Supervised by South China Agricultural University, these are among the best teas of their kind in Qingyuan. In addition, Huanghua has a rich folk culture, and the Huanghua sacrificial ceremony is renowned both domestically and internationally.

Guanyin Valley Rock Climbing: The Most Mysterious Crag in Yingxi

Nestled in a deep valley surrounded by mountains lies a mysterious place called “Guanyin Valley.” Known among rock climbers as “the most mysterious crag in Yingxi,” it earned its name from a peak inside the valley that resembles Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) and is the site where the ecological features of Yingxi Peak Forest are most concentrated.

The shape of Guanyan Rock resembles a dragon, and it was originally called Longyan (Dragon Rock). It was later renamed Guanyan Rock after local residents enshrined and worshipped Guanyin here. The cliff is steep, precipitous, and majestic.

Inside the valley, the peak forest’s ecological beauty is overwhelming, resembling a paradise on earth. The peaks of Guanyin Valley are most notable for being strange, secluded, elegant, and ancient. There are unique formations such as the Tathagata Peak, Guanyin Mountain, Camel Peak, Half-Nude Buddha, Dog Peak, Lion Mountain, Flying Horse Mountain, White-Beard Elder Mountain, and Three Nymphs Mountain. There is also the natural spectacle known as the “Three Buddhas Meet Peak Forest.” Visiting Guanyin Valley requires a bit of imagination, as the oddly shaped stone peaks resemble figures such as Guanyin, Tang Seng (Tripitaka), the Tathagata Buddha, and the divine turtle... Of course, what’s even more fascinating are the various cave landscapes, which can inspire everyone to conjure up a perfect story.
