Baojinggong Ruins

The Baojinggong Ruins is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Baojinggong Ruins are located in a cave on the eastern side of Yanzishan Mountain, on the northern bank of the Beijiang River, about 7 kilometers south of Yingde City. They date back to the middle Paleolithic Age. In the ancient river deposits of the second karst cave level, 14 stone tools made from flaked cobbles were discovered. These implements include choppers, pounders, scrapers, and feature various forms such as hand axe-like shapes, double-edged, wide-edged, convex-edged, and round-edged tools. No flake tools were found. The tools were primarily made using the hammering technique, with most being struck on one side and a few on both sides, and there is virtually no evidence of secondary retouching. This shows relatively primitive and rough characteristics, though some slightly more advanced features are also present. The cave is 57 meters above the local river level and belongs to the third elevation zone of caves. Its estimated age is around 100,000 years ago, roughly contemporary with the Maba Man fossils.
