The Gongchui Hanyu Memorial Archway

The Gongchui Hanyu Memorial Archway is located in Liwu Village, Yingcheng Town, Yingde City. It was built in the 10th year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1871). Facing east and situated to the west, it is a stone memorial archway with four pillars, three bays, and one story. The structure features a hip-and-gable roof, inscribed with the two characters “圣旨” (Imperial Edict). The stone pillars are chamfered, and on both sides of the pillar bases are placed drum-shaped stones. The overall height is 8.75 meters, the central bay is 2.15 meters wide, and the side bays are 1.75 meters wide; the central bay’s horizontal beam is inscribed in intaglio with the four characters “功垂捍禦” (Meritorious Defense), while the side bays’ door beams are inscribed in intaglio with texts such as “On August 20, 1860, the Governor-General of Liangguang, Official Lao Chongguang, submitted this request,” “Petitioning for the divine manifestation of Lady Yu of Yingde County to be bestowed an honorary title, originally submitted on the first day of the ninth month and retrieved from the Grand Secretariat,” and “Respectfully written by Examination Graduate Official Yang Mo on the seventh day of the first month of the tenth year of the Tongzhi reign.” On both sides of the archway, the stone pillars are adorned with bas-reliefs of officials holding ceremonial tablets. The archway is well-preserved.
