The Gongchui Handi Memorial Archway

The Gongchui Handi Memorial Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The Gongchui Handi Memorial Archway is located in front of Ximiao Temple in Bailou Village, west of Yingde City.

Constructed in the 10th year of the Tongzhi reign (1871), the archway features three bays, four pillars, and five stories, built entirely from granite. The lintel of the first story is inscribed in intaglio with the words “Gongchui Handi,” while the central top section bears the intaglio inscription “Imperial Edict.”

The Yu Lady Archway (also known as the Gongchui Handi Memorial Archway) was originally located at the ancient West Shrine in Maza (present-day western Yingde, around Changling). In the 10th year of the Xianfeng reign (1860), then Viceroy of Liangguang, Lao Chongguang, petitioned for an imperial title, and the archway was constructed in the 10th year of the Tongzhi reign (1871).

On November 8, 2008, the General Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province issued the “Notice on the Announcement of the Fifth Batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units,” listing the Gongchui Handi Memorial Archway among them.

Chengxi Community: Chengxi Community is situated to the west of Yingcheng Subdistrict in Yingde City, west of Yingzhou Avenue, covering an area of approximately 60 square kilometers with a population of around 20,000. The area includes 30 villager groups and 8 residential groups.

Chengxi Community serves as an administrative unit integrating both rural and urban districts. Due to rapid economic development, the urban area has undergone significant changes in recent years, with numerous high-rises and well-developed transportation. The villager groups are located in suburban areas, featuring vast expanses of land, most of which lie along the Yinghan Highway, enjoying a relatively solid economic foundation. Both the Wuhan-Guangzhou Railway and the Guangzhou-Lechang Expressway run through Chengxi.
