Niuyuzui Primitive Ecological Scenic Area is located at Damashan in Xiutianluo Village, Dongcheng District, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province. The scenic area covers a total land area of 3,800 mu, with a water surface area of 6.6 hectares. It is 70 kilometers from Guangzhou and 10 kilometers from downtown Qingyuan.

Centered around the business philosophy of “Green + Health + Fun,” the entire scenic area is designed into two major parts. The first part focuses on the attraction “The First Stream of Lingnan” as its main theme, emphasizing the observation of primitive plants and landscapes, coupled with the thrill and fun of exploration. This journey takes about 2 hours as you follow the stream uphill, where you’ll encounter exotic flowers and plants, ancient trees and vines, oddly shaped rocks, murmuring streams, and the songs of birds amid fragrant blossoms. The primitive landscape has two distinctive features: an abundance of ancient vines and a rich variety of ferns—both well-suited to the environment of Niuyuzui. There are over twenty types of ancient vines, the thickest of which has a circumference of 66 centimeters, and hundreds of types of ferns, including the highly precious Alsophila spinulosa, a national first-class protected plant known as a “living fossil.” Along the stream, there are three major waterfall clusters, with the tallest, Shuangma Waterfall, reaching over 100 meters. A series of crystal-clear pools follow one after another, like pearls hanging on the mountainside. Among them, “Jade Dragon Pool” is the most famous, named for the wide white jade-like rock layer about 20 centimeters wide and several zhang long visible in the cave entrance of the pool, resembling a jade dragon drinking water. Experts estimate that the chance of this natural phenomenon occurring is less than one in 100,000, making it a unique wonder in the world. In addition, along the stream, visitors can also discover rare cultural and natural sights, such as the “Bogongzai,” the oldest known sacrificial altar in China, and the “Magic Spring,” which flows only in the dry season but not in the rainy season. Adventure activities include suspension bridges and the Adventure Dragon. The stunning scenery varies by season: in spring, you can admire the “Huoque Flowers” covering the stream, and in autumn, you can enjoy the mountain’s red foliage, which rivals even that of Fragrant Hills.

The second part of the scenic area centers around “Niuyu Lake.” It emphasizes leisure, entertainment, and vacation, with the lake covering approximately 6.67 hectares. Recreational activities include over ten water amusement bridges, a natural rocky swimming area, boating, grass skiing, garden barbecue facilities, and a koi pond. The lake is surrounded by 350 ancient pine trees (about 200 years old), 100 acres of fir forests, 30 acres of wild wildberries, and 20 acres of silver flower hills. The entire lakeside mountain scenery is extremely enchanting. Whether you stroll along the shore or take a boat ride, the sight of the emerald-clear waters, blue skies, white clouds, green mountains, and lush pines is sure to leave you spellbound.
