Huangteng Gorge Scenic Area

Huangteng Gorge Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Huangteng Gorge Ecotourism Area is located in Qingcheng District, Qingyuan City, just 3.8 kilometers from the city center. The Huangteng Gorge canyon rafting officially opened to the public in April 2004 and has been rated by tourism professionals as the most attractive, thrilling, and enjoyable canyon rafting experience in China. It has received unanimous praise from fellow tourism operators and a wide range of visitors, and has been crowned the “King of Rafting” in the “Hometown of Rafting.”

In 2005, it was designated by the General Administration of Sport of China as the main venue for the “National Natural Waterway Rafting Competition.” In 2006, it was again chosen to host the “Qingyuan Huangteng Gorge Cup” International Rafting Competition. In the same year, it was rated as an “Outstanding Tourist Attraction in Guangdong.” In November 2007, it was approved as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Three Rafting Options at Huangteng Gorge

There are three rafting choices at Huangteng Gorge: thrill-seekers who enjoy a challenge can start from the topmost first point, ensuring they don’t miss any heart-pounding moments — by the end, your throat will be hoarse. If you’re worried about your heart, you can start from the second point, which is less intense. The third starting point, closest to the finish line, is perfect for those who just want a leisurely float.

1. Full-Course Brave Rafting

The Full-Course Brave Rafting combines the Natural Brave Rafting and the Scenic Brave Rafting. For those who find either the Brave Rafting or Scenic Rafting not thrilling enough, you can do both in one go. The Full-Course Brave Rafting covers a 4.8-kilometer river course with a total drop of 168 meters and over 130 rapids of varying sizes, taking about 150–180 minutes. This journey allows you to experience both the exhilarating and safe rafting as well as the endless charm of first-class water quality in a natural ecological environment: drifting past mountain after mountain and enjoying scenery after scenery; you’ll feel like you’re floating in a painting.

2. Natural Brave Rafting

In October 2004, Huangteng Gorge began the second phase of its rafting course development. With the experience gained from the Brave Rafting project, the second phase proceeded smoothly and opened to the public in March 2005. The newly developed course, named “Natural Brave Rafting,” was so called because it offers more thrills, fun, and natural beauty.

The Natural Brave Rafting course is 2.8 kilometers long and takes about 90–100 minutes. Along the way, you can experience thrilling yet safe highlights such as Cliff Turn, Dragon Through Cave, Coiling Dragon Out of Fortress, Azalea Reflections, Waterfall Jet (with the highest drop of 12 meters), and Frog Jump Pool, while also enjoying picturesque mountain views on both sides.

3. Scenic Brave Rafting

In April 2004, Huangteng Gorge was the first to launch the Scenic Brave Rafting. This rafting experience combines the adrenaline rush of navigating rapids with the relaxation of stopping to admire the scenery, making it an instant hit with visitors and a key contributor to the scenic area’s early success.

The Scenic Brave Rafting course is 2 kilometers long and takes about 70–80 minutes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy dynamic and scenic highlights such as Jade Triple Falls, Divine Dragon’s Gift, Silver Beads on a Jade Plate, Winding Waters, Dragons at Play, and Twin Dragons Setting Sail.
