Qingyuan Museum
Qingyuan Museum was upgraded from a county-level museum to a prefecture-level comprehensive museum in May 1988. It serves as the main institution for collecting cultural relics and specimens, as well as for public education and scientific research in Qingyuan. The museum building was put into use on New Year's Day 2004. The site covers an area of 1,205 square meters, with a building area of 2,729 square meters; the building has two floors, with the first floor serving as a temporary exhibition hall and the second floor housing artifact display rooms, exhibition halls, and various functional rooms. The area dedicated to artifact displays and exhibitions is 1,818 square meters.
Qingyuan Museum collects and displays historical relics unearthed or gathered within the city, revolutionary relics, and various heirloom artifacts. It currently houses a collection of 1,384 items (sets). Most of these relics were unearthed locally or allocated from the province, particularly notable for Neolithic polished stone tools, Eastern Han Dynasty pottery models, and modern calligraphy and paintings, which serve as tangible evidence for studying the political, economic, and cultural conditions of Qingyuan through different historical periods.
Leveraging its resources, Qingyuan Museum features the "Permanent Exhibition of Collected Relics" as its core display while also hosting a variety of temporary exhibitions that are educational, informative, and entertaining. The "Permanent Exhibition of Collected Relics" combines locally excavated and collected artifacts. The museum has organized numerous free temporary exhibitions over the years, including: “Qingyuan Cultural Relics Protection Publicity Photo Exhibition,” “Exhibition of Large Dinosaurs, Paleontological Fossils, and Butterfly Specimens,” “Large-scale Aerospace Technology (Modern Military) Science Exhibition,” “Crackdown on Relic Theft and Tomb Robbery Photo Exhibition,” “Tracing the Phoenix City Exhibition,” “Memory of Civilization – Exhibition of Achievements from Qingyuan’s Third National Cultural Relics Census,” “Photo Exhibition of Qingyuan Cultural Relics Protection Units at All Levels,” “Photo Exhibition of Traditional Qingyuan Villages,” as well as mobile exhibitions from the Guangdong Provincial Museum such as “Guangdong Revolutionary History Photo Exhibition,” “World Environmental Protection and Endangered Animals Exhibition,” “Kaiping Diaolou and Villages,” “The Science of the Human Body Exhibition,” and “Lu Xun’s Life and Achievements Photo Exhibition,” among dozens of events. These have attracted approximately 30,000 visitors annually, yielding significant social benefits.
