Golden Dragon Cave is located on the Liujia Cave section of Jian Tan Town, Qingxin County, Qingyuan City, adjacent to the Qinglian Expressway, about 50 kilometers from the city center. Nestled against mountains and beside water, the cave enjoys a mild climate year-round with abundant rainfall and crystal-clear water. The cave begins at Hujing in the northwest, where a surface river flows underground, then continues for over 2,000 meters as an underground stream before resurfacing at the foot of Fei’e Mountain. It is a type of submerged limestone karst cave.

The cave twists and turns with many branches and significant elevation changes. The underground river periodically appears and disappears, with a total known length of 3,000 meters, making it a rare large-scale cave in the world. Its shape resembles a soaring dragon, and the cave contains concentrated deposits of orange-yellow or orange-red minerals that shimmer like golden scales, hence the name “Golden Dragon Cave.” The cave offers both water and land tours, with the currently developed section spanning approximately 1,500 meters, including 600 meters of boating on an underground lake. Along the way, visitors can admire a breathtaking array of spectacular sights and various uniquely shaped stalactites that spark the imagination. Highlights include “Golden Plate Scattering Pearls,” “Big Golden Melon,” “Big Golden Canopy,” “Golden Sheep,” “Golden Lobster,” and “Golden Carp Leaping Over Water,” all remarkably lifelike. The “Sun Cave” and “Moon Cave” complement each other beautifully; the surging “Golden Sand Source,” the perilous “Dragon Gate Gorge,” the expansive underground lake, and the serene “Lake Reflections” offer striking contrasts. The “Six-Jia Golden Deity” and “Child-Giving Guanyin” are believed to bring luck and blessings. This natural wonder provides visitors with a magical aesthetic experience, lifting them above the mundane. Among the land tour highlights are three treasures: First, a rock in the water pool resembling a giant crocodile emerging from the surface, named “Thousand-Year-Old Crocodile Pool”; second, a cluster of stalactites that produce musical tones when struck, known as the “Musical Stone Wall”; third, a large bowl-shaped rock standing 4 meters high with a 10-meter-wide front arc that glistens under light and shows three different colors from various angles—it is truly the world’s largest natural “Treasure Basin,” leaving visitors in awe of nature’s artistry.

Golden Dragon Cave is located in Qingyuan’s prime gold-producing region, so there are also remnants of old gold mines nearby. The small stream near the mine was once a gold panning site. Visitors can try their hand at gold panning with a wooden pan—maybe you’ll find some unexpected treasure too.
