Guangdong Grand Canyon is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Guangdong Grand Canyon is located in Dabu Town, 68 kilometers southwest of Ruyuan County. The canyon stretches 15 kilometers in length and reaches a depth of over 300 meters, consisting of quartz sandstone. The terrain at the top of the canyon is relatively flat, and a stream cascades down from the terraced cliffs at the canyon’s starting point, plunging more than 200 meters to the valley floor, forming the majestic Tangtou Waterfall. A “Sky Ladder” with a slope of 50 degrees and 1,386 stone steps leads down to the canyon floor. The valley features crisscrossing gullies, towering peaks, and ancient trees, creating a breathtaking natural landscape. The canyon offers the wonder of Huangshan — when it rains, clouds and mist surge from the mountains and drift through the ridges, creating a fairyland-like experience; the peril of Huashan — with its 1,386-step Cloud Ladder; and the beauty of Zhangjiajie — where the valley is deep, peaks are layered, and lush green hues shine brilliantly. The sides of the canyon feature steep cliffs and dramatic gorges, extremely precipitous, while the exposed rocks within the valley are sedimentary rocks formed over 300 million years ago, primarily dense and hard quartzite.

The top of the canyon resembles a large open basin, with the valley floor about 600 meters wide. The calm Dabu River meanders from southeast to northwest, then suddenly plunges down here, forming a waterfall with overwhelming momentum that stirs the soul. Below the waterfall lies a deep pool, whose waters flow along the great canyon all the way to Boluo Town in Yingde, eventually joining the Beijiang River. About twenty kilometers from the canyon, there is a rare quartz sandstone cave in China — Jingfeng Cave. Inside the cave, the oddly shaped rocks present a striking contrast to limestone karst caves, offering a uniquely distinctive landscape.

Before being developed into a tourist attraction in 1998, few people ventured into this mysterious canyon except for employees of the hydroelectric power station. Today, 5 kilometers of the 15-kilometer-long canyon have been developed. Builders have constructed stone paths and bridges at the bottom of the valley, and the hydroelectric power station has also installed a sightseeing cable car.

The terrain at the top of the canyon is gently sloped, and the Hukou Waterfall plunges from cliffs over 200 meters high, forming a spectacular and majestic natural wonder. Route 2: Valley Square → Canyon Entrance → Power Exhibition Room → Tenglong Pool → Huanglong Pool → Valley Floor Visitor Service Point → Fengche Door → Shuijuanzhai Scenic Area → One-Line Sky Scenic Area → One-Line Sky Entrance → Eco-Viewing Trail → Valley Square (5 km, approx. 240 minutes).

Route 3: Valley Square → Eco-Viewing Trail → One-Line Sky Entrance → One-Line Sky Scenic Area → Shuijuanzhai Scenic Area → Fengche Door → Valley Floor Visitor Service Point → Sky Ladder → South Gate Visitor Service Area → Thousand-Meter Corridor → Valley Square (4 km, 220 minutes).

Route 4: Valley Square → Canyon Entrance → Power Exhibition Room → Return via Thousand-Meter Corridor or Eco-Viewing Trail (3 km, 120 minutes).

Family-Friendly Routes

Route 1: Valley Square → Eco-Viewing Trail → One-Line Sky Entrance (2 km, approx. 60 minutes).

Route 2: Valley Square → Thousand-Meter Corridor → South Gate Visitor Center (1.5 km, approx. 30 minutes).

Tip: The temperature at the valley floor is lower. If you plan to hike through the canyon, bring warm clothing and wear non-slip shoes. It’s also advisable to carry some snacks and water for energy and hydration.
